Meeting-Room Acoustics: A Design Checklist

By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026

Plan meeting-room acoustics by separating speech clarity, privacy, conferencing audio and background noise, with coordinated walls, ceilings and door details.

Make the room usable for conversation

Hard glazing, tabletops and ceilings can sustain reflections that make discussion and remote calls uncomfortable. Review the room dimensions, seating, microphone positions and finishes with the acoustic specialist. Absorptive wall or ceiling treatment should address relevant reflection paths and fit the architecture. A small decorative patch may not represent a coherent room treatment, even if its material has a useful laboratory absorption result.

Review the entire privacy boundary

Follow the partition to the structure above and inspect doors, glazing and service routes. A wall that stops at a shared ceiling void can leave a bypass path. Door seals, thresholds and frame junctions should be coordinated with daily use and accessibility. Ventilation paths may require specialist treatment without compromising airflow. Decide which conversations require confidentiality rather than assuming every meeting space needs the same construction.

Coordinate conferencing and building services

Microphones, loudspeakers and ventilation should be reviewed alongside the acoustic finishes. Mechanical noise can mask speech independently of reverberation. Agree representative operating conditions for acceptance and define responsibility for audio-system settings separately from room construction. Thermofriz can discuss manufacturing and installed acoustic packages against drawings and a clear meeting-room brief, including the interfaces that need input from other project specialists.
