Gymnasium and Indoor Sports Hall Acoustic Treatment

By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026

Review sports-hall acoustics with room volume, impact risks, speech announcements, durable finishes, ball exposure and coordinated overhead treatment.

Map the activities and listening needs

Sports halls may support coaching, announcements, assemblies and community events as well as regular play. Record the room dimensions, typical occupancy and the positions from which speech must be understood. Hard floors and broad reflective surfaces can sustain sound, while equipment and simultaneous activities add sources. The project specialist should identify which conditions the proposed work is intended to improve.

Treat impact and fixing requirements seriously

Materials in reach of users or balls may need protection or a suitable impact-resistance assessment. Overhead elements require appropriate support and coordination. Do not infer structural or impact suitability from an acoustic coefficient. A protective facing can also change absorption, so the proposed complete system needs relevant review. Access for equipment and maintenance should be considered before treatment areas are fixed.

Coordinate the room and its services

Lighting, ventilation, detectors, sprinklers, scoreboards and sports equipment can limit usable treatment areas. Agree interfaces and inspection responsibilities with the architect and engineers. For a retrofit, plan safe access and protection of the floor. Thermofriz can discuss material and contracting packages against the hall’s programme and project requirements, with an emphasis on a coordinated construction rather than a decorative panel quantity alone.
