Planning Reflection Control in a Recording Room
By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026
Plan recording-room reflection treatment using room purpose, monitoring or microphone positions, frequency behaviour, available depth and isolation needs.
Identify the recording or listening task
A spoken-word booth, a music recording space and a monitoring room may need different balances of reflection and absorption. Document the instruments or voices, microphone positions, loudspeakers, desk and typical use. Room dimensions and construction matter. Begin with the task and a specialist assessment rather than assuming that a familiar panel pattern will work in every small room.
Review frequency behaviour and available depth
Absorptive performance can depend on thickness, backing, mounting and air space, and it can vary substantially with frequency. A room that sounds less lively at higher frequencies may still have important low-frequency issues. Review measurements and the intended construction with the acoustic designer. Do not interpret a single absorption summary as a complete description of room behaviour.
Keep isolation and mechanical noise in scope
A recording room can have controlled reflections and still admit unwanted sound from services or nearby activities. Identify relevant leakage, vibration and ventilation paths. Coordinate treatment with cooling, lighting and access, and separate responsibilities for AV calibration from building work. Thermofriz can discuss suitable material systems and installed packages as part of a clearly defined studio project.
