Acoustic Door Seals: Perimeters, Thresholds and Site Checks
By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026
Plan acoustic door perimeter seals, drop seals, thresholds, hardware and commissioning as one installed door assembly.
Review the complete opening
A laboratory report for a door leaf alone does not describe every installed opening. Obtain the tested construction and check the frame, leaf size, seals, threshold and hardware against the proposed schedule. Include the surrounding wall and its junction to the frame. A higher-rated leaf cannot compensate for an open perimeter or an untreated wall bypass.
Coordinate the threshold with access
A threshold detail must work with the finished floor, accessibility requirements and normal movement through the opening. Check how any automatic drop seal engages over the final floor surface. Agree tolerances with the door supplier and installer before fabrication. Do not add an improvised strip that prevents safe closure or conflicts with required fire-door certification.
Check closure under normal use
Inspect the seals with the actual closer and latch settings, rather than holding the door shut for a demonstration. Look for continuous contact, damage, debris and uneven floor conditions. Record adjustments and replacement instructions at handover. Any site sound-isolation test should cover the completed boundary under its agreed test conditions.
Project checklist
- Complete assembly test evidence
- Frame-to-wall junction
- Continuous perimeter contact
- Threshold and accessibility coordination
- Closer, latch and maintenance checks
