Checking Fire Documentation for Acoustic Finishes
By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026
Coordinate fire and acoustic evidence by reviewing the exact product, facing, backing, substrate and installation with the responsible project professionals.
Start with the project requirement
Ask the responsible designer or fire consultant to identify the required classification, application and supporting documentation. A generic “fire resistant” statement does not explain which test was performed or where the product may be used. Requirements can differ between surface finishes, complete partitions, doors and suspended systems. Treat the intended application as part of the review.
Match the evidence to the supplied construction
Review the product identification, thickness, facing, backing, substrate and installation conditions in the supporting documents. A change to fabric, adhesive, paint or insulation may require further review. Do not assume that evidence for one component applies to the complete assembly. Equally, an acoustic result does not establish fire suitability, and a fire classification does not establish sound absorption or isolation.
Coordinate approval before installation
Record the accepted documents and the conditions attached to approval. Resolve questions about fixings, cavities, penetrations and junctions with the appropriate professionals. The acoustic contractor’s scope should state the information it supplies and the approvals required from the project team. Thermofriz can discuss material and assembly documentation for the proposed package without replacing the project’s statutory, structural or fire-safety design responsibilities.
Project checklist
- Required classification and application defined
- Exact product and assembly matched
- Facing, adhesive and backing changes reviewed
- Relevant professional approval recorded
- Acoustic and fire claims kept separate
