How to Prepare an Acoustic Project Brief
By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026
Prepare a useful acoustic brief with room uses, drawings, noise sources, construction details, project constraints and clearly allocated performance responsibilities.
Describe the outcome before the product
Begin with what people need to do in the space and what prevents them doing it comfortably. A classroom with unclear speech, a boardroom leaking confidential calls and a noisy equipment room are different briefs. Describe where the problem is heard, when it occurs and which activities or sources are involved. Include the normal occupancy and the equipment or services operating at the time. This avoids treating every complaint as a request for more wall panels.
Give the team a usable picture of the building
Supply plans and sections showing room dimensions, ceiling heights, adjacent uses, doors, glazing and service routes. Record known wall and ceiling constructions and identify anything that must remain. Photographs help explain visible finishes and access constraints, but do not establish concealed construction. Where drawings are incomplete, agree a survey and record its limitations. An appropriate technical assessment is more reliable than selecting a system solely from a photograph.
Define responsibility and commercial boundaries
State whether you need materials, design assistance, an installed package or a wider turnkey contract. Identify the person responsible for acoustic design, fire and structural review, building-services coordination and final acceptance. Include programme, working-hour restrictions and the procurement stage. Thermofriz can discuss manufacturing and acoustic contracting against this information; a defined brief gives the team a basis for identifying assumptions, exclusions and the next assessment required.
Project checklist
- Room uses, occupancy and operating times
- Drawings, dimensions and adjoining activities
- Known construction and any survey limitations
- Observed noise sources and problem locations
- Design, installation and acceptance responsibilities
