How to Review an Acoustic Test Report

By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026

Read acoustic test reports by checking the sample, laboratory, method, mounting, frequency data and differences between the tested and proposed construction.

Identify exactly what was tested

Read the sample description before the result. For an absorptive panel, note thickness, facing, backing, cavity and mounting. For an isolation assembly, note the full wall, door, frame, seals or glazing construction. Record dimensions and any special details. A report for one configuration does not automatically establish performance for every size, finish or installation sold under the same product family.

Read the result in context

Identify the laboratory, test method, date, measured quantities and any stated uncertainty or limitations. An absorption summary and a sound-reduction rating answer different questions. Frequency-dependent information can reveal behaviour hidden by an overall number. Check that the proposed claim is the claim the report actually supports. Acoustic evidence should also be kept separate from fire, structural, moisture and other project requirements.

Record differences before approving a substitution

Compare the report with the actual specification and list all differences. A changed facing, mounting cavity, seal or support condition may need technical review. Do not treat similar appearance as sufficient evidence of equivalence. Ask the responsible designer to decide whether further evidence is needed. Thermofriz can provide product and assembly information for the proposed scope so that review is tied to what will be supplied and installed.

  • Mounting and backing conditions checked
  • Laboratory, method and report date recorded
  • Frequency data and limitations reviewed
  • Proposed changes referred for technical approval
