Painting and Refinishing Acoustic Panels

By Thermofriz Team · Updated 25 October 2026

Plan acoustic panel refinishing without assuming that a new coating preserves absorption, fire properties or warranty.

Identify the existing product

Find the product name, original finish, installation record and any care instructions before starting. Similar-looking panels can use different cores and surface treatments. If identification is uncertain, ask the supplier to inspect an accessible sample. Treat an undocumented existing panel differently from a new product with a defined refinishing procedure.

Obtain written finish guidance

Ask whether refinishing is permitted and which coating, preparation and application method are specified. Confirm whether the change affects available acoustic or fire evidence and any warranty terms. Do not assume that a decorative contractor’s standard wall-painting process applies. Test the approved method on a sample or agreed inconspicuous area before treating a complete room.

Protect openings and record the change

Keep perforations, slots, seals and moving parts clear as required by the product instructions. Review the appearance after drying under the room lighting. Record the finish product, date and approved procedure for future maintenance. Where critical performance has become uncertain, obtain a technical review or replace the affected elements with a documented system.
