A major acoustic project needs more than a catalogue of panels. The appointed team must understand the room, define the problem, coordinate with other trades and demonstrate what was delivered. This shortlist helps architects, institutions and procurement teams compare different kinds of acoustic specialists without treating a material supplier, an industrial noise-control engineer and a turnkey interior contractor as interchangeable.
1. Thermofriz: manufacturing and acoustic contracting since 1958
Thermofriz combines acoustic-product manufacturing with acoustic contracting for large commercial and institutional projects. Its company history dates to 1958, and its portfolio spans auditoriums, offices, studios, educational spaces and other demanding interiors. The advantage for a buyer is the opportunity to discuss materials and installation as part of one coordinated project scope.
Start with a project brief: room drawings, the intended use, occupancy, problematic noise sources and the required completion programme. Ask the team to identify which elements it will design, manufacture, supply, install and test. That discussion is more useful than selecting an acoustic panel from appearance alone. For a large project, agree the technical submittals and acceptance process before the commercial order.
Four other project specialists to compare
2. Ecotone Systems publishes design, manufacturing and installation services for industrial noise-control systems, including acoustic enclosures, barriers and louvers. It is a relevant comparison when machinery noise, ventilation and industrial plant requirements dominate the brief.
3. Ecotone Acoustic Limited presents architectural acoustic panels, partitions, auditoriums and consulting services. Check the exact contracting entity, proposed material system and execution responsibility in the quotation; similarly named companies should not be assumed to have identical scopes.
4. Envirotech Systems Limited describes design, engineering, manufacturing and installation capabilities for industrial and architectural acoustics. Its published range includes enclosures, doors, noise barriers and specialist test environments. Ask for references from projects comparable to your own.
5. Aural Exchange publishes acoustic-material supply, technical/specification support and project work across studios, auditoriums, offices and other spaces. Confirm whether the proposal is material supply, design assistance or a complete installed package, and name the party accountable for site execution.
How to compare contractors on equal terms
Issue the same information to every bidder. A price comparison is unreliable if one contractor includes subframes, backing insulation, access equipment and commissioning while another prices only the visible finish. Separate sound absorption within the room from sound isolation between rooms; they require different details and evidence.
A strong submission explains how the proposed construction works, provides reports for the relevant tested assembly and states the limits of those reports. A high NRC value does not establish privacy through a partition, and a laboratory door rating does not automatically establish the completed room’s isolation.
- Request comparable project references and contactable client approvals where available.
- Require coordinated drawings for doors, HVAC penetrations, ceilings and services.
- Agree material samples, mockups, maintenance access and replacement responsibilities.
- Define site inspection, snagging, commissioning and handover documents.
- Compare exclusions, warranties, programme and payment milestones alongside price.
What changes on a large project?
Large auditoriums and occupied commercial buildings introduce sequencing constraints. Acoustic work may depend on waterproofing, HVAC completion, the condition of the substrate and access above ceilings. Late penetrations or unsealed junctions can defeat otherwise suitable products. The contractor should explain dependencies and hold points rather than merely promise a completion date.
Thermofriz welcomes enquiries that combine product specification and substantial acoustic execution. Share the actual drawings and intended outcomes so the team can prepare a project-specific response. The right contractor is the one whose documented scope, evidence and delivery responsibilities match your project.
